Tournament Format


Four qualifying shifts will be played Friday & Saturday – The top 31 scores will qualify for Bracket Play on Sunday.  The next 32 players (excluding duplicates) will play in the consolation event – 1 game matches with winner moving on.  The Consolation Winner will be entered in the 32nd spot of The Traditional & advance to Sunday.

Main Event – Sunday 

The 32 bowlers will be seeded based on their scores and placed in the according bracket (4 brackets of 8). Each bowler will bowl a one game match against each of the 7 within that bracket. For each win a player will get a 50 point bonus and ties will get 25 each. The top 4 from each bracket, total score (pinfall and bonus), will advance to the semi final bracket. If there is a tie for 4th spot, then the head to head bracket match will determine placement. If still tied, then a one game match will be bowled to determine a winner.

Quarter Finals

The 16 advancing bowlers will be divided into two pre-determined brackets of 8 and seeded based on total score including bonus points. The semi final brackets will be comprised of another round of  single game individual matches against each of the other 7 opponents.  50 points will be given for the high score of each game (25 for a tie). The top 4 scores from each bracket will advance to the Finals. If there is a tie for any spot in the top 4 , then the head to head bracket matches will determine placement. If still tied, then a one game match will be bowled until a winner is determined.

Semi Finals

The final bracket shall consist of single game match play 7 game round robin against each of the other semi-finalists, with 50 point bonuses for each win (25 points split for a tie) with the top 4 players advancing to the  Finals.


The finals will consist of a 4 player Bracket – with the top 2 players Advancing to the Championship Match.

• Rules of the Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association will apply.

• The tournament committee will decide on any matters arising during the tournament and their decision will be final.

Bakers 4-Player Team Event

The Bakers 4-Player Team Event will be held on Friday evening each year.  This will be 4 player combined NoTap event. The Bakers event is 20 games.  Top 4 Teams will advance to a Team Stepladder to determine the Bakers Champion –  With the high qualifier having a second life in the Stepladder.

The lead off bowler will bowl the 1st frame, 2nd player frame 2, 3rd player frame 3 and 4th player frame 4. Player 1 then bowls frame 5 and 2nd player bowls frame 6 and so on till the game is over.

The cost of this tournament will be $300 a team – with an optional $80/team side pot

Event Schedule

The Heritage Traditional Open will once again be hosted at Heritage Lanes, in Red Deer, Alberta. The tournament dates are May 10-13 , 2018. With the Mitsubishi Shootout Running May 10, 2018 & the Main Event Running from May 11-13, 2018
